The National World War II Memorial opened today in Washington, D.C.

My dad served in World War II. He’d be so proud and excited if he hadn’t been dead for 25 years.

I mean, aren’t we a little late with this? World War II ended 60 years ago!

Legislation to establish the memorial was introduced in Congress in 1987. Arguments about its location and design delayed the start of construction until 2001.

According to the American Battle Monuments Commission, World War II veterans are dying off at a rate of about 1,100 per day . . .
