Jury Duty

I had jury duty last week. Jury duty is the worst thing in the world, except for maybe losing a limb.

For the first time, I was not actually called for a case. I like to think that my mere presence in the courthouse was enough to persuade several defendants to plead guilty and avoid a trial by jury.

My experience with jury duty is that if you pick 12 people at random, three of them will have an “anything’s possible” view of the world, independent of the laws of reason, physics and common sense.

My motivation to reason with these people dries up in less than a minute. I just want to go home.
