Ontological Tangents

I can’t figure out why it’s so hard to get my kid to take a shower every night. We ask him to take a shower, he leaves the room like he’s going to do it, but he doesn’t do it.

So we tell him again, he goes upstairs like he’s going to take a shower, but he doesn’t take a shower.

Depending on how preoccupied his mom and I are, he sometimes just moves from room to room for hours.

It’s mystifying . . .

“Why can’t you just take a shower when someone asks you?” I say.

“I don’t want to,” he replies.

“But you know you’re going to have to take one eventually, so why not just do it and get it over with?”

“That wouldn’t be me.”
