NARCh – Day 3

18 Jul 2005 /

Game 4 – 9:00 A.M. vs. Mission Cooler Selects

The Selects are from Georgia. They fall behind 2-0 on the first shift and go downhill from there.

Final score: Bulls 8, Selects 0.

There are two undefeated teams after the round-robin games: the Bulls and the Corona Mission Lucky Charms Green, another Southern California team. The Bulls get the top seed based on a lower goals-against average.

Quarterfinal – 7:45 P.M. vs. Corona Mission Lucky Charms Blue

Not to be confused with the second-seeded Lucky Charms Green, the Lucky Charms Blue are a much weaker team. The winner of this game gets to come back tomorrow afternoon for the semifinals.

Final score: Bulls 8, Lucky Charms Blue 0.

We stick around to watch the Lucky Charms Green toy with Gulf Coast Storm Black en route to an 8-1 victory in one of the other quarterfinal games. At one point, a Lucky Charms kid comes down on a breakaway, crosses his skates over, and backhands the puck through his legs into the top of the net.

The Bulls goalie is standing next to me going nuts.

“I’ve seen that move before!” he yells.

Actually, so have I, just never in a real game against a real goalie.
