Greetings mortals —
I was reading about a backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dwayne Haskins, who, depending on which story you read, was walking on a highway, or jogging on a highway, or trying to run across a highway, but in any case he managed to get himself hit by a dump truck and killed.
Then a couple things happened. One is that people who the day before wouldn’t have given a second thought to Dwayne Haskins took to whatever media were available to them to announce how devastated they were at his untimely demise, how the bottom had dropped out of their lives, etc.
The other thing that happened is that Gil Brandt, former NFL executive and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, did a radio interview and said something to the effect of maybe if Haskins had stayed in school another year he wouldn’t be doing silly things like jogging on a highway.
Of course Brandt was roasted for his remarks to the point where he had to issue a phony apology.
It’s amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of phonies.
If you die doing something stupid, you don’t get an dispensation from people saying you died doing something stupid just because you were good at throwing a ball.
See you in Hell . . .
