My fellow Americans –
I have to confess I have not figured out the difference between a “MAGA Republican” and a plain old Republican. A “Make America Great Again” Republican. It doesn’t sound so bad.
And with that still unresolved, we are now confronted with “extreme MAGA Republicans,” who apparently want to make America extremely great again.

Midterm elections are not far away and if I were a Democrat, I wouldn’t be looking forward to them with great optimism.
Every Democratic policy has failed. They are under water with the economy, we are in a recession based on the GDP numbers continuing to decline, mortgage rates are at a 15-year high of 6.7%, we are in a bear market based on the plunging stock market ($9 trillion dollars in value lost since January,) the Inflation Reduction Act won’t reduce inflation.
They are under water on crime, supply chain, energy independence, border security, international policies.
But they do have some made-up phrases to enter into battle with: “MAGA Republicans,” “extreme MAGA Republicans,” “semi-fascists.” Next time you hear someone use the word “fascist,” ask them what it means. That should be fun. A lot of people just repeat words and phrases that they’ve heard even though they have no idea what the words or phrases actually mean.

Republican Extremists
Shannon Brandt, 41, struck and killed [18-year-old Cayler Ellingson] with his Ford Explorer SUV early Sunday in an alley. His mother said Ellingson called and asked her if she knew Brandt (she did). The boy called again a short time later and said that “‘he’ or ‘they’ were chasing him.” The mother could no longer reach him after that.
Court documents said, “Brandt admitted to striking the pedestrian with his car because he had a political argument with the pedestrian and believed the pedestrian was calling people “to come get him.” He claimed the teen was part of an unspecified Republican “extremist group.”
Brandt was released on bond.
He was a MAGA Republican, a threat to the country like Joe Biden said. So I crushed him with my truck. To make America safe for democracy.

I don’t think the sentiment would play any better coming from a white person.
The article goes on to say that the professor has faced “violent threats, harassment and abuse.” OK, first of all, let’s all keep our hands to ourselves. No violence. But still, of all the people who claim to have received violent threats or death threats, how many have actually been violently attacked? How many have died?
The only case that comes to my mind is Salman Rushdie, and he didn’t get a death threat from a lone nut, he got a death threat from a global religion. Other than that, I have to call bullshit on the whole “violent threat/death threat” thing. Everybody gets death threats but no one ever dies.
Now as far as harassment and abuse, I’d say that wishing someone an excruciatingly painful death falls under the heading of harassment and abuse. So if you’re going to dish out the harassment and abuse, you’d best be able to take harassment and abuse in return. You asked for it, you got it.

It Wasn’t Much Good for Reading, But . . .
I recently read Omon Ra, a Russian novel that I’d heard good things about. I didn’t really like it at all.
This afternoon, I saw some kind of a large black pincher bug on the living room carpet. My copy of Omon Ra was lying nearby and I picked it up and smashed the bug with it.
