. . . everything can be taken from a man except one thing: the last of the human freedoms–to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.
On this date — September 2 — in 1944, Anne Frank was among 1,019 people on the 68th and last train from Holland to Auschwitz. Anne and others hiding with her had been betrayed and captured a month before and held in the Westerbork detention center.
The Frank family had gone into hiding two years earlier, in July 1942, after Anne’s sister, Margot, received a call-up notice to report for deportation to a labor camp.
Anne was at Auschwitz for two months, then at Bergen-Belsen, where she and Margot died four months later of typhus, just a few weeks before the camp was liberated.
Anne’s father, Otto, was liberated from Auschwitz by the Russian Army on January 27, 1945. His wife, Edith, had died the previous day.
Otto Frank was taken first to Odessa and then to France before being allowed to return to Amsterdam. He did not learn the whereabouts of his daughters until October 24, when he received a letter informing him they had died at Bergen-Belsen.
This unfortunately was not an unusual family trajectory for European Jews in the 1940s. Anne Frank is remembered from among millions of others because she maintained a blog — I mean diary — so that her experiences, what she did, the thoughts she had, and everything she suffered was not lost.
I suppose the same holds true for everyone, with or without a diary — nothing is lost, nothing can be undone . . . and it may be possible for a life that appears to be quite pointless at the time to attain a meaning, a purpose, even through suffering, failure and death . . .
HI my name is KayLynn Hockenberger I think that it is offel that Anne and her family had to live in a small appaetmw=ent above Mr. franks old office. I also think that it is offel that they didn’t kick Mr. van dan out after they cought him stealing food in the middle of the night. this book was varry good and sad at the same time.
she let a lot of people to know her lifes past and how she was betrayed and howshe had been judge
this book was awesome. i have never read anything that has come close to being like this story of the brave young anne and her family and friends who were with them.
Hi my name is tony. I think that Anne Frank is inspiring. Why are people such asses that they have to leave comments like raul and rob (at top of page). Do they think thats funny cuz i sure don’t. The book is good and shows a other person’s perspective on life. Just remember Anne Frank was not the only one that suffered in the camps. Show me ur opinion at Riz93_Chicago_Man@hotmail.com

Anne Frank lives forever in the thoughts and minds of all who adored her =)
I love this book. It is very sad.It is also happening today with the emigration stuff though except the concentration camps but it is almost the same.=/ i think.
I love Anne Frank’s book! I wish I could go back in time, give them food becuase they were starving and save them to tell them to move to a different place so they won’t die!!! She’s such an inspiration!!! I started a diary kind of based on her. It’s so good that her dad fulfilled her last dream, she loved writing so much and she was so mature and everything!!! She’s a very, very, very good role model, well God bless Anne Frank, her family and everyone who died in the Holocaust!!! PLEASE REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hitler, you stink, I hope you never existed, it’s good that you killed yourself, you should have tortured yourself first you evil ugly monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have this lock to my heart and no one and nothing can touch me.but this book has.i never really noticed all the bad things in Anne Franks time. But there is really no difference NOW
HATE LIVES IN THE WORLD.BUT NEVER DISRESPECT A WORLD THAT RESPECTS WHO YOU ARE.
Hi i have read the book Anne Frank and i love it, it makes me think of my own life sometimes, Sometimes i think as if i am Anne.I feel very sory for Anne and her family. Our class at school is reading it and i think they all love, and some look sad.I just feel very sory for Anne Frank
Hello everyone
I’d like to start by saying to everybody that’s hating, remember hate is what got the Franks and some 6 million Jews killed. Anne Franks story is sad but remember, what happened to her was happening to all the Jews. she was just a young girl who kept a diary and who’s father lived, to be able to get it published. If Anne had lived, the odds were that she would not have published her diary. What I think you should get out of this is that there are people that are willing to risk all to help you but we must stop the hate because just as it happened to Anne and so many Jews and some non-Jews all those years ago, it is still happening today. Look at what happened in Rwanda and whats happening in Tibet. There is still a lot of hate and racism out there and it is up to the youth of today to try and stop it. I am a 45 year old Hispanic man who has been thru a lot (No were near as bad as what happen to Anne, her family or the millions of Jews) and still believe in helping my fellow man/woman and also believe that there are still a lot of people that have a good heart and would help out the next person, but there are even more that would not help for fear of what there peers might say. Everyone stay safe, be kind, help your fellow man/woman and God bless.

I wish that all of this hate would stop too. But…it has been going on long before our time, and will probably long after our time. Its something that has been around since Biblical times, and will probably be one of the main downfalls of man. The youth of today seem less caring about the issue than the youth of ‘yesterday’ Each generation has ‘something’ to prove….and hate is one of them. Half of these ‘haters’ probably dont even have a clue as to who they are hating…they just hate because everyone else does….if someone out there wants to hate….why not hate yourself for hating everybody else…seems more logical if you ask me…and makes more sense….
They had no right to da that!that was cruel and how would they like it if the were treated thatway so ppl listen and care
Anne Frank is my hero…..an amazing girl who should be know around the world and is a true insperation to me. Thank you to Meip Gies for giving Anne’s checkerd diary to Otto Frank and for keeping Anne alive, our world it greatful.
