The guy in the next cubicle is spending the afternoon looking at animal cams on the web.
“Look at this whale cam,” he says. “It’s underwater!”
“So it’s like a regular whale cam,” I say, “but the twist is, this one is underwater? As opposed to, say, the land-based one downtown?”
“Here’s a land-based whale cam,” he says, bringing up a feed from a camera mounted on a shoreline somewhere, pointed out at an empty sea.
“I don’t see any whales,” I say.
“You didn’t see any on the underwater one either,” he replies.
“Remind me again why you’re bringing this to my attention.”
