Some observations on the Yankees and the biggest choke in sports history.

Joe Torre

Man, am I tired of this guy’s smug kisser. Most overrated manager in baseball history. He immediately comes out and blames Mariano Rivera for blowing the 3-0 series lead.

No class.

Derek Jeter

I’m tired of the pretty-boy fist pumping while he’s batting .185. Jeter is recognized for his “intangibles,” which means his stats aren’t very good compared to other shortstops, but he’s been lucky enough to play on winning teams. If he were on any other ballclub, no one would have heard of him.

Alex Rodriguez

A-Rod took about a billion dollars to lead the Texas Rangers out of last place, got bored with that and decided to coattail his way into a World Series with the Yankees. The Yanks signed him, not because they needed a shortstop, or even another hitter — they really could have used a couple of decent left-handers on the pitching staff — but just to show everyone that they could do it. It’s great to see this front-running quitter take a hard loss.

Brian Cashman

Every time they showed him on TV during the seventh game collapse, he looked like he was going to cry.

“Cash Man,” my son says. “That’s a good name for a Yankee guy.”

I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s true! It is a good name.

Ronan Tynan, the Irish Tenor

Does anyone notice a resemblance here?

Tynan and Gollum

The ears, the nose, the cranial structure . . . slap a turtleneck on the guy on the right and you couldn’t tell them apart.
