From the Offical Voter Information Guide:
Requires labeling of food sold to consumers made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specified ways. Prohibits marketing such food, or other processed food, as “natural.” Provides exemptions. Fiscal Impact: Increased annual state costs from a few hundred thousand dollars to over $1 million to regulate the labeling of genetically engineered foods. Additional, but likely not significant, governmental costs to address violations under the measure.
Notice this phrase: “Provides exemptions.” In other words, the statute requires certain things and prohibits certain other things — except when it doesn’t.
Not that it matters because $1 million a year isn’t going to buy you a lot of enforcement anyway. Who wrote this proposition, Dr. Evil?
Prop 37 is supported by people who hate freedom and having to think for themselves.
Either you’re not as intelligent as you seem to think you are, or you’re a troll. No intelligent person can look at the money trail for this proposition and come to the conclusion that you profess to have. Well, if nothing else you’ve garnered negative attention for bad behavior again. Well played, sir.
I’m intelligent enough to go to the supermarket and figure out what to buy without government assistance.
P.S. Every newspaper in the state opposed this thing, to respond to your “no intelligent person” “argument.”
Clearly, your P.S. is untrue: http://www.carighttoknow.org/endorsements
And you have no idea how your food was grown unless you buy organic, so your “government assistance” claim is invalid and as usual, inflammatory.
Why do you bother with the Hostile Witness alias anyway? Are you afraid to say what you feel with your own name attached?
I’ve got two words to say on Prop 37: Scoreboard, baby! (“Scoreboard” is one word, right? Check me on that.)
And if you “buy organic,” you’ve STILL got no idea how your food was grown. You’re trusting someone. And there’s a lot of encouragement for abuse because if I stamp “natural” or “organic” on it, then I can charge a bunch of idiots at Whole Foods 10 dollars for a piece of cheese and they’ll pay it!
I shop at Trader Joe’s because I trust them. Beyond that, I don’t know or care how or where the food was grown. I buy it and when I’m hungry, I eat it. If it kills me, then I guess it was my time to go. Jesus christ, the things people find to worry about …
I just want to remind Hostile Witness that I don’t support abusing the commenters. If someone takes the time to share an opinion, they should be treated with respect, even if the opinion is not very well thought out.
You’re so lame.
