Regal Cinema is Alienating Me

28 May 2017 /
Regal Cinemas

Went to the movies yesterday and found that Regal Cinema has joined the ranks of Chevron and Walgreens as companies willing to hit up customers for a charitable donation as part of their regular purchase.

You’re part of an industry that burns up a billion dollars making pirate movies and Baywatch and special effects science fiction bullshit. Donate that money to whatever cause you’re passing the hat for, instead of hustling the customers for a donation over and above the price of a ticket and a 6-dollar soda and a 10-dollar sack of popcorn, and then tooting your own horn over your generosity and community involvement.

Beware of Chest Physicians Bearing Gifts

10 Dec 2011 /
Christmas Popcorn

I work for a healthcare organization. In the lunch room today was one of those cylinders full of caramel corn and cheese corn that turn up everywhere around the holidays.

This one had a note attached: Compliments of your colleagues at the American College of Chest Physicians.

Are caramel corn and cheese corn good for cardiac health? They’ve gotta be terrible, right?

Beware of chest physicians bearing gifts!

CARDIOLOGIST: Who referred you to our office?
PATIENT: I saw your name on a container of cheese corn.
CARDIOLOGIST: Ha ha, yeah, those things pay for themselves a million times over in stents and angioplasties.

Doctor Links a Man’s Illness to a Microwave Popcorn Habit
New York Times, Sept. 5, 2007

If you actually read the story, you see that the man’s doctor says that there “is not a definitive causal link” between popcorn and the man’s health problems.

You’ve gotta love the total overreaction to one case where popcorn may have caused a lung problem.

The Bush administration had better crack down on this pronto!!!

Frankly, I’d rather get a lung disease and die than live in a country where the government tells me I can’t eat popcorn! You can take my popcorn when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands!

I’m going to go pop up a batch right now in protest!

Have a nice day . . .
