A Family Secret

Christmas presents

“Don’t buy us anything expensive for Christmas this year,” my mom says on the phone. “Save your money.”

I diplomatically omit the fact that every year as the Yuletide approaches, my wife starts rummaging through the closets for things she doesn’t want, then wraps them up and gives them to my parents as Christmas presents.

To Paul’s wife: Before you take this all wrong, Paul and I were experimenting wtih a new blog technique to see if our family members read our blogs. This post was the one he came up to get you to notice and make a comment. No husband is really this dumb to write something about his wife.
Have a great new year, btw.

GL, my standard disclaimer is that I’m a raconteur, not a documentarian. Sometimes there’s a choice between representing life as it actually happened or embellishing it for the sake of a good story, in which case I err on the side of making stuff up. Plausible deniability and all that.

So . . . maybe my wife really does this, or maybe she doesn’t, although just between you and me — she does.

Happy New Year to you too.

Hi gl hoffman : This is paul’s wife, this story is not true. Paul is a writer. he made up a story to make it more interesting. This is what I get for being married to a writer. Sometimes I just have to take the good with the bad.
