Teaching Prisoners to Code: What Could Go Wrong?

What could go wrong here? Criminal minds + coding skills = ???

One of my favorite Mr. Boffo cartoons shows a gang of robbers in a bank in the Old West . . . one of the robbers says to another, “Someday this will all be done by computer.”

What an inspiring program to solve a big and growing U.S. problem.

Do you really think that criminal minds can’t pick up these skills on their own? A lot of inmates are much brighter than many people give them credit for being.

Besides, the days of high priests of computing running around with punch cards in trouser hip pockets, and with visions of blinking light patterns and binary codes filling their cerebral capacity are long gone. Unlike COBOL, most modern programming languages such as PHP, Java, C++, C#, and Visual Basic facilitate mass learning.
