What You Don’t Say

13 Jan 2009 /

I just got an email from a co-worker with a wedding picture attached . . .

Thanks for the picture, I wrote back. I’ve never seen a happier-looking bride, except my wife of course.

She replied, That’s for sure…I really couldn’t of been happier for that moment…

What I didn’t say: You’ll never be that young again. You’ll never be that beautiful again. You’ll never be that happy again . . .

…it took so long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe again…

    Are you MOCKING me, MS?

Hey even I find Jimmy Webb depressing — “MacArthur Park,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston.”

    Lighten up dude!

Oh no, I would never mock anyone. I’m far too nice to do something like that. I’m sure most people’s natural reaction to viewing a photo of a happy person would be to think of how they will age, lose their beauty and become unhappy. Totally normal. Don’t even worry about it. Seriously.

And BTW, “The Highwayman” is a great song.
